What do you do professionally?
I began my career as an electrical engineer specializing in power and manufacturing operations. I expanded into system processes and then into the software that drove those processes. Information technology, ERP, systems integration, databases, and then into IT Devops. Along the way I have been a manager, leader, change maker, and struggling visionary.
I have decided to split my other musings onto other domains. W.P. Hill Tech has historically housed my Oracle, APEX, ORDS, and other technology details.
What does the W.P. Stand for?
I lived in a small town called “Whitney Point”. I had dreams of a technology business. The clever individual in me had started product development on a camera system for daycare centers built in Linux with open source libraries that took output from a frame grabber and constructed videos. This was before RING, but the same idea. The largest issues I ran into were internet costs, video quality, and compute speed. At the time, the local internet upload speeds were atrocious. Although I got a prototype software running, I was not skilled enough to get it to scale at a profitable cost. Technically, I learned a lot about camera technology, python, and Linux in the process. Professionally, I learned about understanding markets, cost estimation, and the power of building a professional network.
I have held onto the domain name since then. To me, it is a reminder of my youthful ambition.
